Lawrence "Del" Cotreau
Born: August 10th, 1925
COTREAU, Lawrence Delphis “Del” – No doubt God has reserved a special place in Heaven for a man who is brave enough to marry a lady with three grown children and grandchildren. It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved “Del”. He was born Lawrence Delphis Cotreau on August 10, 1925 to Delphis and Julie (Surette) Cotreau of East Boston (originally from Wedgeport, N.S.). Del served for four years in the United States Navy and after his discharge started an appliance repair business which he had for many years in Revere, Mass. In 1988 he married Josephine Murphy-Surette of Wedgeport and became an important part of our family. The couple resided in Revere, Mass. for 12 years and then returned to live the rest of their married life in Josephine’s home in Wedgeport. In May, they moved to New Beginnings in Yarmouth. Besides his parents, Del was predeceased by his brother Paul, sister-in-law Vivian and beloved step-son Roland. He leaves to grieve his wife Josephine; step-children, Donna (Jack) Messenger of Barrington Passage, Eldon (Ruth) Surette of Edmonton, Alberta, and Ellen Surette (widow of Roland); grandchildren, Morgan, Melanie, Jan, Amber and Stephen. He enjoyed the company of his great-grandchildren whenever they came to visit “Papa Del”. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in the USA. Visitation took place at Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Wedgeport on Friday, July 8 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A celebration of Del’s life was held at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Wedgeport on Saturday, July 9 at 2 p.m., Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, the VON or to St. Michael’s Cemetery.
