It is with broken hearts accompanied by a deep feeling of thanksgiving and celebration for the gift of her life, that our family announces the death of Jean Layton (Spence) MacKay. She died peacefully in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on July 10, 2016, at the age of 86. Daughter of Harry & Eliza Fisher, Londonderry, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Jean is survived by her beloved husband Dale MacKay; daughters, Bettie (Larry Alexander), Linda (Edward) Barnhill, Patti (Leo) Mooring, Donna (Ron Hall); sons, Ken (Deanna), Bob (Bev), Jim (Gwen), David (Cathy); step children, Dean, Paula, Natalie & Greg MacKay; 21 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Jean was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Ruth Spence as well as great-grand daughter Layla Margaret Spence.
Jean retired from Snook’s Save Easy/Atlantic Superstore. She was a member of Debert United Church, UCW, volunteered with Colchester Stroke Club as well as with the Colchester Hospital Auxiliary.
Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A Memorial Service in thanksgiving for Jean’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 13 at 2pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. Carolyn Rushton, officiating. Private family interment will immediately follow the service in Middle Road Cemetery, Debert. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Colchester Stroke Club or the SPCA.
