Shirley Marie Christie, age 77 passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Saturday, July 9, 2016, following a courageous battle with cancer. She led this journey with great dignity and strength.
Born in Millcreek, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Dorothy Quinn.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Kenneth Christie; sisters, Joan and Rose; brother, Cameron; brothers-in-law, John MacDonald and Larry Paquet.
She is survived by sons, Glenn (Sue), Kennie (Melissa) and daughter, Janet (Scott MacCuspic); sisters, Donna MacDonald, Valerie (Tom) Long, Audrey (John) Johnstone, Joanne Quinn and Marion (Richie) McNeil; brothers, John (Angela) Quinn and Greg (Wanda) Quinn. She is also survived by grandchildren, Erica (Ryan) MacInnis, Matthew (Leslie) Christie, Tyler (Nicole) MacCuspic, Brittany (Jaclyn) MacCuspic, Kendra (Jeremy) MacCuspic and Jordan Brown; her treasures, Jack, Norah and Ben (great- grandchildren) and their grandmother,Darlene Ellsworth. Shirley loved all aspects of life and aimed to create happiness to all those who surrounded her. Her zest for life and laughter was contagious. She was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 53, Baddeck. She enjoyed playing cards, darts and chasing the elusive ace with her many friends who meant the world to her. We wish to express sincere thanks to Dr. Chow, all members of the palliative care team and continuing care supports who enabled her to stay at home in comfort; as well as her many friends and extended family at Lakeview Manor. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Englishtown Community Hall from 2-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place Friday, July 15, at Englishtown Community Hall at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Society of Victoria County.
