JOY E. MAXWELL
July 16, 1919 - July 7, 2016
Joy Ellen Maxwell passed away in Gibsons on July 7, 2016. Mom would have celebrated her 97th birthday in nine days. Joy was born in Reigate, England. She was a war bride and married her Canadian husband Robert (Bob) in 1940. Bob was in England, serving Canada in the Signal Corp from Calgary during World War 11. Joy travelled to Canada in 1945 with her two children. She waited in Calgary with Bob's family, for him to return from Europe. They lived there until Bob retired. It was then that Bob and Joy moved to Gibsons and enjoyed many years of retirement there. In 2008 they moved into Christenson Village where Joy continued to enjoy Eastern Star, OAP, and her involvement with Christenson's Chapel.
Joy is survived by her daughter Diane Dahl (Rod), grandchildren Kevin Dahl, Martin Dahl, Robbin Dahl (Tammy), Karrie Bignold (Ron), 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, brother Bill Noyce (Daphne) in Australia, sister Marjorie Vernoum (Bob) in England, also nieces and nephews.
Joy was predeceased by her son Robert in 2002, and her husband Bob in 2010.
A private graveside ceremony was held at Seaview Cemetery. Thank you to Robbin and Karrie for all your help.
We extend a special thank you to the management and staff at Christenson Village, Dr. Berinstein, Dr. Spithoff, doctors and nurses at Sechelt Hospital, Sunshine Coast Hospice Society volunteers, Ray Niebergall, Devlin Funeral Home and Independent Lifestyles Home Care.
