It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Frank Gregor MacDonald. At the age of 73, he passed peacefully in his sleep on July 15, 2016 surrounded by loving family and friends. Frank was also known by many names such as Poppy, Brother, Uncle, Dad and Frank Pot. After a long battle with cancer Frank fought the odds and became cancer free. In those years he never complained once.
Frank was born and raised in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. In Frank’s working life he started in the banking industry. Later he moved to construction having a natural talent for carpentry. This lead to a long series of management positions in construction. In some of his summers he operated a successful lobster restaurant in Louisbourg.
He had a great passion for the arts/music industry in Cape Breton. Frank was involved in Rotary shows, was onstage for the first Rise and Follies and was involved in the Summertime Review Productions. He travelled the roads with musicians such as Buddy and the Boys, Matt Minglewood and Sam Moon.
After meeting the love of his life in 1979, Frank and Debbie got married in 1981 having celebrated their 34th anniversary together October 9, 2015.
Frank was an avid reader and lover of western, sci-fi and action movies. He would sit back and relax in his Layzboy always with a pair of moccasin slippers.
He was also a lover of all animals. We remember his pets, Angus (dog), Killer (cat), Rufus (cat), and Smokey (cat). He loved to spend his summers having fun with friends and family at MacLeod’s Campground in Dunvegan, NS.
The family would like to give thanks to Frank’s many Doctors that cared for him throughout the years. Special thanks to Dr. Ron MacCormick, Dr. Andrew Giorno, Dr. Laith Shimon, Dr. Robert Cohen, Dr. Robert Brownstone and Dr. Brenda Zwicker.
