H. Stewart Sutherland

Sutherland, H. Stewart, 84, of Dartmouth passed away August 3, 2016 at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in New Glasgow on October 3, 1931, he grew up in Westville as the only child of the late Henry and Margaret (Stewart) Sutherland.
Stewart graduated in 1956 from Acadia University and then went to Dalhousie University. He worked for Atlantic Sugar Refinery in New Brunswick for 10 years before moving back to Nova Scotia to begin a long career in personnel with the Federal Government, retiring as a senior Auditor with DND in 1989. He was a long time member and past Elder at Iona Presbyterian Church.
Stewart, along with wife Hazel, enjoyed Square Dancing with the Shenandoah Swingers for many years. They also spent many treasured seasons after retirement at the cottage in Lunenburg Co; and travelling to such places as Florida, Cuba, Jamaica, Hawaii, Israel, Spain, Canary Islands, the United Kingdom and the Carribean.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 61 years Hazel (Morris) Sutherland; daughter Kathy Sutherland, Halifax; sons, Bill, Calgary, Scott (Pam) Sutherland, Dartmouth; grandchildren Hailey King, Edmonton, Jessie Taylor, Calgary, Rebecca Sutherland and Brittany Sutherland, Dartmouth; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-laws Kathryn, Erma (Jack) and Mary; many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 1 pm on Thursday, August 11th from Iona Presbyterian Church, 90 Lucien Drive, Dartmouth, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Chenard officiating. No flowers by request.
Donations in memory of Stewart may be made to Iona Presbyterian Church, or a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank the Nurses, LPN’s, CCA’s and nursing students at the Dartmouth General Hospital for the amazing care extended to Stewart during his time there.
