Sarah Gillis

It is with saddened hearts that we, the family of Sarah 'Lizzie' Elizabeth Gillis, announce her passing on, August 18th, 2016, at the age of 104 surrounded by her family. Sarah was a long-time resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care (Mira Bay) and former resident of 12th Street, New Waterford. She was the daughter of the late Loretta and Rodrick MacIntyre and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by sons, Joe (Delores), Charles 'PeeWee' (Shirley) and Les (Mildred); 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a son-in-law, Ed Murphy. Sarah was predeceased by her husband, James (1989); daughters, Eileen Crowe (son-in-law Douglas Crowe), Loretta Murphy and son, Hugh (daughter-in-law, Theresa). Also, sisters, Annie MacPherson, Viola MacIntyre, Mary Eldridge, Margaret Moseychuck; brothers, John and Charles MacIntyre. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A private family graveside service will be held Sunday, August 21st at 12:15 p.m. in Mount Carmel Cemetery with Father Ray Huntley officiating.
At this time the family would like to thank the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their care, dedication, love and laughs shown to Sarah and her family during her eight year stay. You are truly her extended family and we cannot thank you enough. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sarah’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
