ALLEN, Lloyd G., of the Elgin Manor, R.R.#1, St. Thomas, ON passed away at his residence on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in his 99th year. Beloved husband for 52 years to the late Eleanor (nee Taylor) Allen (1998). Dearly loved father of Robert “Bob” Allen (Brenda), Jo-Anne Vanderwyst, all of St. Thomas, and the late Douglas Allen. Dear father-in-law of Mary Allen (Ross Pease). Cherished grandfather of Mark Allen (Christine), Eric Allen (Mackenzie), Nicholas Allen, Jennifer Allen, and Lesley Lensens (Larry). Also survived by sisters, Lillian Cochrane (Bill), and Della Allen, sisters-in-law, Doreen Smith and Doris Allen, six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and son, Lloyd was predeceased by sisters, Hazel Orr and Maribel Woodall, and by brothers, Edward, Ralph, Frank, Karl, Gordon, Wilfred, Angus, and Clarence. Born in St. Croix, Hants County, NS, September 24, 1917, he was the son of the late Edward and Hattie (nee Miller) Allen. Lloyd was a 37 year employee of Timken Canada, St. Thomas, having retired in 1982. He was a charter member of St. Mark’s United Church (now known as New Vision Community Church), St. Thomas, where he was formerly active for many years. During the Second World War, he served overseas with the No. 407 (Demon) Squadron, RCAF. Lloyd was a life member of Lord Elgin Branch #41, Royal Canadian Legion, St. Thomas. He served as a director at the Elgin Labour Centre for 40 years, and was a volunteer for over 50 years at the Pearce-Williams Christian Centre. In 1998, he was recognized by The Co-Operators for his volunteer commitment to his community, and was a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. The funeral service was held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas, ON (519-631-1160) on Friday, August 26th at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to the Pearce-Williams Christian Centre or the Elgin Manor re: Recreation Dept. will be gratefully acknowledged.
