Theresa, age 96, passed away peacefully on September 12 at the Halifax Infirmary, after a brief illness. Born November 5th, 1919, in Dunvegan, Inverness County, Theresa was the daughter of the late John C. and Catherine (MacKinnon) MacLeod. She was a nutritionist and food safety specialist with several provincial and federal departments, retiring from the Department of Health and Welfare (what is now Health Canada). Theresa was a devoted member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Halifax. She loved the city of Halifax and although a private person, she generously catered to friends and family, driving them to appointments, stores, meetings, etc. She is survived by sisters, Alice Beaubien, Richmond, Quebec, Catherine Schiffmann, Brewster, Massachusetts and Christena MacLellan, Deepdale, Inverness County, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Murdock, Fr. John and Dr. Charles and sisters, Sister Evelyn (Sally) and Sister Mary.
Thank you to the staff of the 8.4 unit at the Halifax Infirmary for their compassionate care. A visitation will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, Broad Cove, on Wednesday, September 14 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral at 11 a.m. with Fr. Danny MacLennan officiating and burial in the Parish Cemetery. There will also be a memorial service at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1725 Oxford Street, Halifax on Saturday, September 24 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery Fund or to a charity of your choice.
