Hubert Jacobs
Born: January 20th, 1945
Passed on: September 10th, 2016
Today the world lost one of the kindest, most honest and loving men - he was one of a kind. We are heartbroken but also filled with joy that he was a huge part of our lives for more than 71 years. His smile lit up a room and his wit was legendary. His love for his family and friends knew no bounds. Hubert was born in Twillingate, NL, was raised in Westport, White Bay, NL and as a young man decided to venture north to Wabush, Labrador where he worked for Wabush Mines for several years, married and became a wonderful father. In 1981 the call of Alberta was too strong to resist and he decided to embark on another adventure to Fort McMurray, AB which he called home until his retirement from Syncrude in 2003. Fort McMurray was also where he met and married Jo-Anne and made many lifelong friends. Deciding they wanted to build their dream home and have some land to call their own, he and wife Jo-Anne relocated to Athabasca where they set down new roots and made many wonderful friends. Deeply mourning our loss are wife Jo-Anne (Ashley) Jacobs, son Todd Jacobs (Melanie) and their children Breanne, Zachary and Damon, daughter Tracey McLean (Marlon) with their children Kolby, Reece and Piper. He will also be much missed by grandson Jayde Boyd as well as the mother of his children Roz Jacobs (Hickey). Hubert leaves behind brother Max Jacobs (Doris), sister Marie Decker (Will), brothers-in-law Kevin Taylor and Garfield Rice along with his nieces and nephews Paul (Vida), Aubrey and Pelma (Owen) Rice and families, Glen (Dana) and Brian (Shaun) Decker and their families, Chris and Jane (Daniel) and families as well as David (Trisha) and family. He was a special uncle to Alex Ashley (Ashley Gray), and their children, Danielle Ashley (Nathan Robbins) and Justin Ashley (Sawsha Caines). He will also be much missed by brother-in-law Adam Ashley. Hubert was preceded by his father Wilfred, mother Ida and sisters Beatrice Rice and Jane Taylor. Hubert was able to remain at home thanks to the unwavering support of Dr. E and Sherri-Ann, the very helpful pharmacists at Value Drug Mart, the wonderful, compassionate, kind and patient Home Care nurses who answered all our questions and kept us well sorted with supplies and visits, and the many friends who phoned, visited and brought gifts of food - it meant more than you know. Most importantly, the 24 hour comfort and care we were able to give him thanks to his sister Marie, brother Max and brother-in-law Will. Not only did they help care for Hubert, they also ensured our stomachs were full, the grass was cut and the veggie garden weeded - the words thank you seem inadequate. A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Athabasca Community Chapel. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Second Chance Animal Rescue (www.scarscare.ca) or Fort McMurray Salvation Army (125 Elmore Drive. Fort McMurray, AB T9H 4N8). Arrangements intrusted to Athabasca Community Chapel - Funeral Director Christina Gobel - 1-780-675-3996.
