Born in Whycocomagh, N.S., age 89, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home. She was the last surviving child of Neil Angus and Christie (MacMillan) MacDonald. Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Charles Neil and a son, Charles Neil, as well as siblings, Christene, Isabel, Florence, Nellie, John Robert, John Lewis and Neil Angus. Surviving are sons, Robert (Anne), Sydney, James (Pamela), Calgary, Allister (Carla), Bedford, David (Anne Marie), Halifax; daughter, Charlene (Greg), Port Hood. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family is grateful to the staff of the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home for the care our mother received over the past two years. Jessie raised her family from their Townsend St. home. Later in life, she operated a successful Bed and Breakfast, while also working as a night sitter at the Sydney City Hospital and Cove Guest Home. She took great pride and satisfaction from helping others and brought much comfort, compassion and caring to those in palliative care. There will be no visitation. A life-long Presbyterian and member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, from where her funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in St. James Cemetery, Boularderie. Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Sunday School Fund, St. James Cemetery Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
