Scriven, Brian Ralph age 69 of Abbey, SK passed away Friday Sept 23, 2016 at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current surrounded by his family. The Funeral Service was held @ 2 pm Wednesday Sept 28, 2016 in Abbey with Rev. Salesi Takau officiating. The Internment service took place at Abbey Community Cemetery. The Pianist was Amanda Faulk , Eulogy was given by his niece Erin Beckwell. Urn Bearers were his Grandsons Lucas & Cash. Brian is survived by his wife Dianne, Daughter Tanya Selk and her son Lucas; Son Verral (Tanya) Scriven and their son Cash. He is also survived by his siblings Marlis (Robert) Heron, Rodney (Edna) Scriven, and Janis (Charles) Tumback, his brother-in-law Orvel (Deb) Huartson & sister-in-law Wendy (Darrell) Reynolds, as well as numerous nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents W. Ralph & Doris Scriven, his father & mother-in-law Henry & Myrtle Huartson & his son-in-law Bradley Selk. Brian was born June 20, 1947 at Cabri, Sk. He attended school at Abbey & went on to take Heavy Duty Mechanics at SIAAS in Saskatoon. He married Dianne Huartson in 1972. Brian worked for many years in road construction & maintenance and as well started farming in 1973. In the early 80's he returned to work for the R.M. of Miry Creek as a Patrol & Scraper Operator later becoming the Foreman. Brian & Dianne moved to the farm near Abbey in 1976 where they resided and raised their family until 2011 when they moved to Abbey. He continued to farm with his son until his passing. Brian was very active in the community serving on numerous boards including: the Lancer Sask Wheat Pool Committee, both local and regional library boards, the ABC Centre and served as a councillor for Division 6 in the R.M. of Miry Creek. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Abbey Branch #222 having held positions of President, Treasurer and served on several committees. He was an active member of the Abbey Curling Club for many years, coached High School Curling and had the honour of taking the team to Provincials. He was always willing to give a hand with any event and had a strong community spirit. He took great pride in his children's achievements & was always there with advice & a helping hand. His two grandsons Lucas & Cash were the lights of his life and always brought a smile to his face. He was very proud of them & proud to be their Grandpa. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, or the Abbey United Church. Culham/Bowers Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
