Barbara Ellen Maxwell
Barbara Ellen (Mitchell) Maxwell, age 73, passed away after a brief illness on October 6, 2016 with her family by her side at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Middleboro, Pugwash, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Eileen Mitchell.
She is survived by a sister Marjorie (Ralph) Wolfe of Upper Nappan and a brother Robert "Bob" (Ruth Ann), Saint John, NB. She will be sadly missed by the love of her life and husband of 53 years, James Reade Maxwell. They started their married life in Dartmouth, NS, moving to Truemanville and then to River Hebert having 4 children along the way. Always together you could find them going logging, picking blueberries and even quilting. During the summer their special place was at their cottage next to family on the Pugwash Harbor. On the hot summer days she would always be up for a swim.
Family was all important to her and she will be missed by her children; son James (Darlene) River Hebert, daughter Brenda (Mark) Carter, River Hebert, son John (Christine), Truro and son Arnold, Dartmouth, along with grandchildren, Mark (Jalysa), Victoria, Nicole, Alicia, Andrew and Mikaela. As well as her new Great Grandson Maken who she thought was so cute.
Barbara enjoyed gardening and worked at the local Greenhouse for many years. The outdoors was where she preferred to be and always enjoyed the trips to the camp and those bumpy rides on the tractor. She was always smiling and catching that "Big" fish was a favorite pass time. Most recently she loved her rides on the 4 wheeler with Reade. Barbara loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, across Canada and the US as well as cruises with family.
She enjoyed her quiet time reading, doing puzzles and writing in her diary. She had prayers for everyone. She was an active member of the River Hebert United Baptist Church where she participated in the choir and taught Sunday School. Her family and friends will miss her quick smile, remember her courage and remain in awe of her strength and determination.
