Donna Elizabeth Louise MacLeod

Born: October 28th, 1954

Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: October 15th, 2016

Donna MacLeod passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Born October 28, 1954, she was the daughter of Kathleen “Kaye” (Gerrior) MacLeod and the late Fred Tyrus MacLeod. Besides her mom, she is survived by brothers, Fred (Ruth), Sydney, Australia and Allen (Shari), Sydney, Cape Breton; nieces Shona, Helen and Bonnie and nephew, Ben. She was predeceased by her partner, David MacKinnon in 2007 and her sister, Mary Eleanor in 1949.
Donna grew up and spent most of her life in Sydney's north end. She worked mainly in the communications field. She began as an operator for MT&T in Sydney before relocating to Ontario where she was a receptionist and claims information officer in the insurance industry. After moving back to Cape Breton she worked at the EDS call centre and then became her mom's full time care giver. Donna enjoyed many sports, especially baseball and her love of music was eclectic. Her passion was for animals. Later in life she was devoted to caring for birds, dogs, raccoons, sometimes foxes and many, many cats. She neutered and spayed so many stray cats that the vets were thinking of naming a wing of their building after her. We would like to thank Dr. Anne Frances D'Intino and the wonderful caring staff at the An Cala Palliative Care Center for their help at a really tough time. Also, a special thank you to the amazing staff of the VON especially Anne Andrea and Karen MacDonald who went above and beyond their expectant duties to make Donna and her mother, Kaye, as comfortable as possible. Finally our family would like to express our gratitude to our neighbours and friends who sent gifts of food and much needed love to us. Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19th at T. W. Curry's Parkview Chapel, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Interment at a later date next to her father and sister at Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery, New Glasgow, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Au Cala Palliative Care Unit of the CB Regional Hospital, the SPCA or the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society.
