It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita Boutilier, 95, on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she was a resident. Born in Sydney Mines on August 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Minnie (Fraser) Gouthro. Rita will be sadly missed by her sons, Remi (Gloria) and Kevin (Glenda); her grandchildren, Gerry (June), Jennifer (Patrick), Shane, Lawrence and Kayla. Also left to mourn are her great-grandchildren, Cody, Lynden, Ivy and Emily; her brothers, Alfie and Stanley and her sister, Francis (Tilly). Rita will also be sadly missed by her extended family at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she was known as Nan. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald and her son, David. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita’s memory may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
