Jean Hayes Macdonald – 95, of Windsor, NS, passed away at the Windsor Elms on Friday, November 18, 2016. Born in Belleisle Creek, NB, Jean was the daughter of Howard and Elsie O’Neill. A graduate of Mount Allison University with a Bachelor of Education, she began her teaching career in Belleisle Creek, NB and, later, the Netherwood School for Girls in Rothesay, NB. From 1946 to 1954 Jean taught at the Edgehill Church School for Girls in Windsor, NS before being appointed as the school's Headmistress from 1954 until retiring in 1958. Her love of education continued outside of the classroom as she went on to serve as a member of the KES Board of Governors from 1977-1992. Jean was also a dedicated volunteer, helping to improve the lives of others as a member of the Hants Community Hospital Auxiliary, the United Church Women (UCW), and the IODE. She also spent countless hours canvassing for various charitable organizations and was a recipient of the Nova Scotia Volunteer Award. Jean is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Gary Meagher); son, Sandy (Lynda); and grandchildren, Ian, Erin, Maddy and Will. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred “A.G.” Macdonald; and brother, Arthur O’Neill. Arrangements were entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). A memorial service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating.
