Joan Margaret DeVries (nee Robertson) 1955-2016
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Margaret DeVries (nee Robertson) in the early morning hours on November 21, 2016 at the age of 61 years old in High River, Alberta. Joan was born in Mankota, Saskatchewan on August 11, 1955 and had a deep love of the prairies – a good old Saskatchewan girl. Joan loved growing up on the farm and had a deep love for family visits, which were a staple during her upbringing. Joan was most happy when surrounded by family, serving guests a good meal and being able to give back in her own unique way. Joan was immensely generous to all around her, and was naturally a selfless woman. Joan showed tremendous faith, strength, fight, courage, determination and tenacity throughout her life. Joan was a source of health information for many people, becoming a telephone armchair warrior for many demonstrating empathy, bravery, experience and encouragement to whoever crossed her path. Joan was a woman of the Lord, and her faith was strong and deep. Although she had a shy personality, Joan would love to talk about her testimony and share in the joy of other’s healing encouraging words. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Joan was predeceased by her very loving parents Phyllis Robertson (nee Mayo) and William “Bill” Robertson. Joan is survived by loving husband of 40 years Garry DeVries, children Sheena Brown (Matt), Douglas DeVries & Grace DeVries, brother Donnie Robertson (Laurie) & children, brother in law Gordon (Ann) DeVries & Martin DeVries and many extended family members. A service was held for Joan on November 29, 2016 at the High River Gull Gospel Church. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Joan’s memory to the High River Salvation Army Food Bank. 403-652-2195.
