The MacQueen Family
A poem by Allan Burchell of Sydney Mines who wanted to pay tribute to his friend Sonny.
Sonny
I knew him as a little boy
I knew him as a man
Why he was loved by many
I truly understand
His door was always open
None were turned away
With no money, food or shelter
They had a place to stay
Arriving there with nothing
Few clothes to unpack
Everyone he sheltered
Knew Sonny had their back
He looked for nothing in return
Just got you on your feet
And everyone would agree
The nicest guy you’d ever meet
Living Life’s not easy
Death’s a terrible part
But we can make death easier…
Keep his memory in your heart
I’ll always hear his laughter
I can’t forget his smile
I hope someday, somehow, some way
We get to meet and talk awhile
If how we lived our life on earth
Determines where we’d land
I know that in my heart of hearts
You’ll hold our Father’s hand
Sonny, it was an honour just to know you
And be considered a good friend
I hope you enjoy your next life
It’s the beginning, not the end
Miss ya Sonny, Henny
