John Gordon MacDonald
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, John Gordon MacDonald, age 58, after a short courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Rannie and Elizabeth (Campbell) MacDonald of Sydney River. He resided in Sydney River until his marriage to Anne Marie (Peters) MacDonald. They spent their married years in Dutch Brook. He worked for the Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board for many years and was loved and respected by his co-workers, students and staff of all schools in the district. Johnny will always be remembered for his amazing sense of humor and his stories which brought happiness and laughter to others over the years. Also for his love of music and the many family gatherings over the years where he played his guitar and sang all of our favorites. He is survived by his five children, Andrew, Natalie, Justin, Jonathan (Vicki) and Michael. Also by the light of his life, his granddaughter, Isabel; several brothers, and sisters, Buddy (Charlotte), Windsor, NS, Stewart (Carol), Sydney River, Jennie (Kenny Rent) and Ralph (Valerie), all of Lower Sackville, Mary Ellen (Dan McNeil), Big Pond; sister-in-law, Sadie MacDonald; special friend, Carol Williams, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Marion MacGillvray; brother, Gussie MacDonald and a sister, Betty in infancy. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River with Father Duaine Devereaux officiating.
Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
