Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Sheila Mackey (Corbett), peacefully passed away in the company of loved ones on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 at Pleasant View Towers in St. John's. She was 82 years old. Sheila was predeceased by her husband Captain James Mackey; her much-loved sisters: Rita (Harold), Nellie (Ken) and Stella (Jim); her brothers: Richard, Dan and Patrick; her brothers and sister-in-law: Frances (Jack) and Mike (Loretta); niece Sharon and her son-in-law Anthony (Pat). She leaves to mourn her seven children: Colleen, Iris (Scott), Angie (Eric), Pat, Greg (Cathy), Jim and Roland; her grandchildren: Mark, Matthew, and Nathan; her special niece Yvonne; her special friend Pauline; as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, including: Sister Alice, Loyola (Gail), Jean (Tom), Beth (Harry), Loretta (Mike), Margaret (Bruce), Mary (Said), Harold, and many more nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Mom was much stronger than she realized; much smarter than she ever gave herself credit for. She raised a large family while dad was at sea. There was always supper on the table every night for her kids, including those she adopted even if it was just for a day. She helped raise her three grandkids and loved to see them visit. Mom's faith was unshakable. She prayed every day for her family, extended family, and often for those she knew were in need or even for a story she had seen on the news. Her heart was that big. Our family would like to give a very special thanks to all the staff at Pleasant View Towers for their compassion, dedication and the tender care they gave mom during her stay. Mom will be resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, with visitation on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 17th, 2016 at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist with cremation to follow. Flowers are gratefully accepted. Mom always believed in charity and would certainly have appreciated any donations to be made to The Gathering Place or a charity of your choosing.
