With great sadness we announce the passing of Reginald "Reg" George Newman Miller, 80, of Richmond Hill, Ontario, on November 20, 2016, after a brief illness. He was born in 1936 to Albert and Mabel Miller in Flat Island, NL, the family later relocating to St. John's. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1956 and had an accomplished 35-year career, first as a Radio Operator and then in Administration. Reg was a respected golfer in his day, having won numerous tournaments individually and on military teams, and broke records at a few courses for low par scores. He was an avid reader of books and loved going to the library in his retirement years. He enjoyed going for long walks almost daily. He had a dry sense of humour and shared that with most people he came in contact with. He loved children and found great joy in spending quality time with his grandson as well as his "honourary kids" Siobhan and Brendan, to whom he and his wife, Mary, provided care. Survivors include his children Kimberly, Sherry, Tracey (Rob), and David; his grandson Jordan; sisters Molly (Chris) of Nova Scotia, Laura Edna (Dave) of Ontario, and brother Willard (Hazel) of NL; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Wiseman); his parents; sister Jean; and brothers Woodrow, James, and David. A time of gathering and interment will be held in April, 2017 in St. John's. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
