The funeral service for the late Dorothy Gertrude Mackie, was held on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, in the Chapel of Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay. She was laid to rest with her husband, Neil, in St. Eugene’s Cemetery, Dominion. Her children want to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone that attended the wake and funeral. To our families, friends and neighbors that sent food to our homes, made memorial and monetary donations, we are very grateful. Thank you to Kirk Neville for the beautiful service and singing Mom’s favorite songs; Clare LeBlanc for interpreting the service for our sister, Colleen; New Waterford Homemakers for their daily visits which allowed Mom to maintain her independence and Glace Bay Healthcare ER and 3rd West staff for the care Mom received. Many thanks, to our family and friends who could not be in attendance, but telephoned to offer their prayers and support. Special thanks to Mom’s granddaughters, Jenna Edmond and Brenna Corrigan, for doing an awesome job on the picture and achievement boards. Nannie would be so proud of you. To our brother, Brian, for reading the “Volunteer Poem” at the service-Mom would be honored.
To Dr. B.J. O’Brien, Teresa, Shaun and Cliona, sincere thanks for your friendship, caring and support, you were Mom’s second family; she truly enjoyed your visits at home and in hospital. To our spouses, you were our pillars of strength, especially during Mom’s last days, your love and endless support helped eased the burden of our pain.
Daughters: Dorothy (Kevin) Edmond, Donna (Mike) Corrigan and Colleen; sons, Gerald, (Mary), Brian (Kim); Grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
