We, the family of Star Charlene Dawn LeVatte-O’Neill, sadly announce her passing on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, in the presence of her boys. Born January 7, 1950, in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Daniel “Donie” and Margaret “Dookie” (Ferguson) LeVatte. Star was an educator and advocate for women. She was the founding co-ordinator of the Antigonish Women’s Resource Center. After moving home, she was a counsellor for the Ann Terry Women’s Employment Project. Latterly, she delivered the Linkage program under the auspices of Every Women’s Center. She held a BA from StFX and a BEd from Dal. Star is survived by her husband, James “Jinks”; sons, Daniel and Seamus, Halifax; sisters, Peggy LeVatte (Kevin McCormack) and Suzannah (Bruce) MacDonald, Sydney. She was deeply proud of her two nieces, Emily and Lucy and six nephews, Charles, Matthew, Brendan, Kevin Luke, Justin and Bruce. She will be missed by her pretty kitty, Rustle. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her younger sister, Mary Catherine. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, January 3 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment at a later date. Shine on, Little Star
