It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne ‘Squirt’ Petite, age 61, on Monday, January 16, 2017. He passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice, Red Deer, Alberta, with his children Cori Lynn and Christopher, niece Mallory and her husband Chris, at his side.
Wayne was born in Glace Bay on November 6, 1955 to Marjorie and the late Art Petite. He graduated from Morrison High in 1973. He then worked as a welder for over 30 years, mostly for Nova Scotia Power at Seaboard and the Lingan Generating Station. He was a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan. In November he attended his last NHL game, the Leafs vs Oilers, at the new Roger’s Place arena in Edmonton with his niece Mallory and the Leafs won. He also loved the Beatles and played guitar. In most recent years he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, accompanying them to school, soccer, gymnastics and piano. Wayne is survived by his daughter, Cori Lynn (Liam Gallagher), Red Deer; son, Christopher (Melissa), Edmonton and grandchildren, Keiren and Declan Gallagher. He is also survived by his mother, Marjorie; sisters, Valerie (Doug Sharpe) and Annette (Lorne Boutilier); brothers, Brian (Lugene) and Arthur (Vanessa) and sister-in-law, Pauline. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Wayne was predeceased by his father, Art and brother, Gregory. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will take place in Glace Bay at a later date.
