Wilfred ‘Buddy’ Allen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wilfred ‘Buddy’ Allen on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Yarmouth, he was the only son of the late St. Clair and Edna (Penney) Allen. Until its closing, Buddy worked for Joy Mfg. and Mining Co. as their Maritime sales representative and district manager. In 1992, he retired from Darr Cape Breton Corp. Buddy was a participant and avid fan of many sports, a longtime member of the Sydney Curling Club, Lingan Golf and Country Club and the Dobson Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Beth (Macdonald); daughters, Lynn (Tim Butland), Bedford and JoAnne Allen, Coxheath; grandchildren, Megan Carson, Peter and Michelle Reeves; great-grandson, Brayden Hines. Besides his parents, Buddy was predeceased by his sons, Gary and Robert and sister, Wynn O’Shaughnessey. Cremation has taken place and visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 20 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, January 21 at 11 a.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
