We are sad to announce the passing of Reta Elizabeth MacMillan of New Glasgow on Friday, January 20, 2017 in the Glen Haven Manor.
Born in Covehead, PEI on October 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ephraim and Zella MacMillan and the wife of Wilbert “Bill” MacMillan.
She was a devoted mother and spent many hours at a rink or a ball field supporting the activities of her children. Many will remember the delicious hamburgers she served at Sobeys. She and her group of dear friends played 45s for over fifty years and met regularly for coffee. She was a member of Trinity United Church and in her younger years volunteered for many things in the community.
She is survived by her loving daughters Gloria Upham, Truro; Judy (Pat) Murphy, Greenhill; Gail (Cheryl), Truro; grandsons Shane (Ingrid) Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Devin (Stacey Lauryssens) Upham, Matthew (Amber) MacMillan and Mark (Ashley) MacMillan; granddaughters Kim (Joe) MacDonald and Stacey (Jason) Lindholm. She leaves behind nine cherished great-grandchildren and her nephew, Franklyn MacMillan and niece Dianne Guyette who were special to her.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son Billy MacMillan and a brother Lloyd MacMillan, son-in-law Carl Upham, daughter-in-law Pearl.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial will take place in the Abercrombie Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the VON or a charity of your choice.
