A much loved and well respected member of the Sydney Mines community, Janet Anderson, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Miner’s Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, at the age of 105, after a happy and fulfilling life. Born in Sydney Mines on December 20, 1911, Mom was the daughter of the late George and Janet (Guy) Collier.
Throughout her life, she was a wonderful wife and mother who contributed so much to the community through the Legion, the Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club, and the Memory Lane Fun Band, entertaining at local concerts and nursing homes. Janet and Angus enjoyed travelling with the fun band, camping with the extended family at the cabin in Grove’s Point and having their home filled with children and grandchildren, whom they cherished. Janet is survived by her children, Janet Glenham, Halifax, Liz (Freeman) Theriault, Sydney Mines, Jim (Vena) Anderson, Sydney Mines and George (Valerie) Anderson, Halifax; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as her sister, Lorraine Young, North Sydney and a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Janet was predeceased by her husband, Angus; sister, Mary; brothers, Bill and George (Bun) and son-in-law, Gordon.
Visitation for Janet Anderson will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, at 1 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Stacey LeMoine officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Janet’s memory may be made to the Miner’s Memorial Manor Bus Fund, or the Sydney Mines Food Bank.
