Rev. Dr. Hector Swain

Passed peacefully away at the Veterans Pavilion on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the age of 87. Predeceased by parents, John and Ellen Swain of Perry's Cove; brother, Fred (Harriett); sister, Edna (Tom) Trickett. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Edna (nee Parsons); sons: Darrell (Heather) and Kerry (Janine); daughter, Sharon (John) Clarke; grandchildren: Jennifer (Matthew), Brad (Allison), Jillian (David), Kara (Justin), Kelli, Alyssa and Nicole (Billy); great-grandchildren: Joshua and Alex; brothers: Lloyd (Glenys) and Tom (Jean) of Carbonear; aunts: Mildred King of Corner Brook, and Julia Mae King of Carbonear; sisters-in-law: Eva (Howard) Richards of South River, Leah Butt (Guy, deceased) of Corner Brook, Lima (Raymond) Derouet of Goulds; special niece, Carla Dinn; special friends: Pearce Penney, Tom (Marilyn) Lawlor, Harold (Grace) Hollett, Eric (Millie) Babcock, and Freeman (Mary) Twyne; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Hector served as United Church Minister in Musgravetown, Corner Brook, Botwood and Mount Pearl, also elected as President of the United Church Newfoundland and Labrador Conference; Executive Director of the John Howard Society; Principal of St. Philip's Elementary School; Lieutenant Commander Naval Reserve, HMCS Cabot; Chaplain of Canadian Legion, Mount Pearl; 50 year member of Masonic Lodge; First United Men's Club; long time member of Harmonica Band in Florida and Mount Pearl, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The family wishes to extended a special thank you to Pearl Hogan (caregiver) and the wonderful staff of Veterans Pavilion for their compassionate care during his brief stay. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl, NL on Saturday, January 28, from 7-9pm, Sunday, January 29, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and on Monday, January 30, from 10am - 12noon. Funeral Service will be held from First United Church, Park Avenue, Mount Pearl on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 2:00pm, with interment to follow at Memorial Gardens, Southlands. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Hector's memory may be made to First United Church.
