Matthew Lawerence Herney

Matthew ‘Mattio’ Lawerence Herney, 47, of Vancouver, formerly of Eskasoni, passed away peacefully, suddenly at home on January 18, 2017 in Vancouver, BC. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Louise Poulette and the late Louis ‘O’boy’ Herney of Eskasoni. Mattio was a ‘Jack of all trades’ and enjoyed working with his hands and playing musical instruments including the guitar and harmonica. Most recently, Mattio developed a passion for wood carving. He loved to make people laugh, sharing many stories with them and was a person filled with much love and laughter. Mattio loved all of his children dearly and although he is no longer here on earth, he continues to live in their hearts where he will remain forever.
He is survived by his daughters, Caitlin Herney, Leanne Herney, Megan Herney, Ocean Herney, Elizabeth Herney; sons, Noel Marshall, Victor Herney, Morgan Herney; sister, Wanita Herney (Clark); brothers, Steven Herney, George Herney and grandson, Nathan and unborn grandchild-to-be, all from Eskasoni. Mattio was predeceased by sisters, Mary Madeline Herney, Cathering Herney, Martha Herney-Treige; niece, Tara Louise Herney and nephew, Louis Michael Peck. Visitation for Mattio will begin after 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 2 at the Gabriel Center, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Family Church with Rev.
