We, the family of Cecil “Sonnie” Thiel, regret to announce his passing on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born March 10, 1936, in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Treige) Thiel. Sonnie was a truck driver in Louisbourg and later, drove a school bus in Mira. Left to mourn are his loving companion of 21 years, Frances MacNeil; sons, Barrie, Derrick and Mark; daughters, Tracie and Laurie; sisters, Florence Breski and Betty Crocker. Sonnie was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Turner); second wife, Barbara (Burgess); a daughter in infancy; sisters, Ann Weatherbee, Margie Walker and Hattie Bateman; brother, John Thiel. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment in Loch End Cemetery, Catalone.
