SHIRLEY H. WELSH (Kerr)
January 16, 1928 - December 30, 2016
Sadly we announce the passing of Shirley, the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend for whom anyone could wish.
Shirley was introduced to the Sunshine Coast as a teenager when her parents came as a cook/caretaker team at the Fleck's waterfront summer home (immediately west of Sechelt). During these early years she sang in a local band and worked on the Union Steamships' Lady Cecilia.
She so loved her time here that after her marriage to Alex they chose to purchase property on Redrooffs Road for their own summer getaway. In the mid-seventies they built their retirement home closer to the road with easier access, happily enjoying the property until this day.
Over the years many people have been the lucky recipient of one of her beautiful handwritten letters full of heartfelt encouragement, empathy or laughter, whatever was required to make one feel better about themselves or their situation.
Shirley is greatly missed by her husband of 69 years, Alex, her son Rob (Marcie) and granddaughters Keya (Dano) and Halli (Irvin). We have all lost a beautiful, loving, giving, and compassionate soul who leaves an enormous hole in our hearts. In Shirley we each had our very own cheer leading support team. She extolled each one of us as unequivocally "The Best". As reflects her nature, she supported the "Association for the Protection of Fur Bearing Animals" as a favourite charity.
She requested that her remains be cremated with no memorial service.
We thank Dr. Melich, Dr. Wadge and Dr. McDowell for her care over the past one and a half years in her battle with cancer. Thanks also to Sechelt Hospital and Shorncliffe hospice staff for their care during her final week.
