"We so miss you"
Age 83, our beloved Kay passed away February 14, 2017 in West Vancouver. Born in 1933 in Springhill, she was the daughter of David Gillis (of Pictou) and Sarah Gillis née Beaton (of Springhill). Kay or K.K. as she was known to by her sisters loved Springhill and always spoke about her trips to the sea driving through Oxford in the back of the truck and growing up on Junction Road. Summers spent playing hop scotch and chewing tar and winter filled with sleigh rides and snow fights. Kay moved to Edmonton as a child in 1947. She lived there only ten years, but she’d forever be an Eskimo, a true fan who bled green and gold to the end. She attended St. Mary’s High School played sports and worked as an Usherette at the Rialto. In 1955 she moved to Vancouver, where a few years later she met the love of her life, Robert. They married in 1963 at St. Augustine in Kits, eventually settling on the North Shore in 1972. A sports mom she could always be seen at one of her children & grandchildren's’ games, holding big family dinners and never failing to burn the garlic bread! She was a curler, a crossword puzzle lover, a pious Catholic. She loved travelling the world, enjoying the Sun, buying ice cream at Coombs and spending summer nights swimming in Nanoose Bay. Kay was always making friends wherever she went and being the best Mum in the world. She had a caring heart, a listening ear and could always find the humor in all of life’s challenges. She is survived by her husband (Robert), her sister (Joan), and her three children David (Mary), Colleen (Greg Lohin) and Kel (Allison) and her seven grandchildren. Funeral services , February 25rd at 11 am at St. Anthony’s Parish 2347 Inglewood Ave, West Vancouver. Any stories to share or memories please email David@clairewoodpartners.com
