On Monday, February 27, 2017 Gladys Weppler (nee Seibel), age 81, passed away peacefully at the Clover House Palliative Care Centre in Swift Current, SK surrounded by her family. Gladys was born January 24, 1936 in the family farm house south of Morse, SK to Jacob F. & Katie Seibel (nee Spate). Gladys grew up with six brothers and four sisters, attending school at Yorkshire and Crocus Hill. She worked at the Hodgeville Hospital before moving to the Morse area where she worked cleaning houses on local farms — where she met her soon-to-husband, Robert “Bob” Weppler. Bob and Gladys were married on June 7, 1957 and had two children together — Tom in 1960, and Lisa in 1972. Together, they enjoyed a good life — they were married for 60 years and lived on their farm north of Morse all their lives. They ran a bed & breakfast called “The Little House on the Prairie” for many years, and enjoyed hosting hunters and travelers from all over the world. Gladys was a very active person and had many adventures within the Morse area. Shortly after getting married, she won a new car playing Bingo. She cleaned the RCMP barracks in Morse for approximately twelve years and proudly contributed to caring for the RCMP officers. She was well known for her ability to bake buns, cakes, cookies and grebble. Gladys loved to cook and cater for large groups, she managed the local curling rink kitchen for a few years. Gladys liked to curl, play ball, and horseshoes — becoming an avid spectator when she was no longer able to participate. She was an active member of the Morse Seniors Club, where she enjoyed many hours of games with her friends. On the warm sunny days in spring and summer, Gladys could often be found out in the backyard gardening, raking leaves, or sitting by the fire pit. She loved the backyard. Gladys was predeceased by her granddaughter; her parents, Jacob & Katie Seibel; and by her siblings, Arthur Seibel (in infancy), Wilmer Seibel, Billy Seibel, Jake Seibel, Edie Seibel, Alex Seibel, Martha West, and Selma Labas. Gladys is survived by her husband, Bob Weppler; her children, Tom (Laurie) Weppler, and Lisa (Jim Reid) Weppler; her granddaughters Tommi (Rogelio) Ortega, and Tessa (Brad Boux) Weppler; her great-grandson, Matteo Ortega; and by her siblings, Caroline (Chuck) Weppler, Diane Funk, and Henry (Lynda) Seibel. “This amazing woman was the best mom, a great wife, loving grandma, and friend to many. To honor what Gladys loved to do, we will be having a celebration of her life at their farm. A future date will be announced this summer. Many years ago, mom asked me to share this when her life was done.” Afterglow (Helen Lowrie Marshall) I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when my life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun, and have happy memories that I leave when life is done. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
