MARY SAMKO ROY
September 12, 1937 - February 25, 2017
Mary was one of seven children born to parents John and Katerina Samko in Enniskillin, Ontario. Their family immigrated from Slovakia in 1937. She spent her formative years in Petrolia, Hamilton and Toronto. She married her husband, David in Toronto. They went on to raise four children - Maryanne, Craig, Monique and Michelene. Mom was a proud grandmother to Amelia, Carly and to Jason.
Mary retired from the Douglas Psychiatric Hospital in Verdun, Quebec, after a long career as a psychiatric RNA. Mom was a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of St. John Brebeuf Parish in LaSalle, Quebec and Our Lady of Lourdes. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League, Hobby Craft and Meals on Wheels.
We hold dear many memories of our sweet mother; the dancer, the protector of nature, lover of all animals, her great sense of humour, love for weather watching, shopping and long walks with her daughters, especially Michelene (Nicole) with whom she lived and shared a special bond. She was a nurturing kind hearted person always ready to lend a hand.
Mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer six weeks prior to her passing. We nursed her at home. We thank Father Vincent, Father Jack, Dr. Marton, Dr. Morantz, the Palliative Care nurses, Sechelt Hospital nurses, Radiology staff, Sechelt paramedics, Devlin Funeral Home and Evelyn. Mom was cremated February 28, 2017.
A memorial service and funeral will be held later this year in Petrolia, Ontario.
C'est Tout....Merci
