Carmichael, Helen “Nellie” May - age 87 of Tatamagouche, passed away April 2, 2017 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Eva (Dorion) Dale. In her younger years, Nellie was a floor lady at Stanfield’s Ltd. in Truro and later worked at Brule Shore Cabins but, the care and love for her family was most important to her and the ways in which she shared that love through the knitted items made for them or the baking and cooking of meals at her family home. She loved to travel and to watch the hummingbirds, cardinals and other birds in her yard but most importantly you weren’t to call during her favourite television show, Coronation Street. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are, her children, Debbie (Ken) Jennex, Lower Sackville; Allan (Karen) Carmichael, Tatamagouche; Mary Kennedy, Tatamagouche; Alisa (Allan) Head, Lantz; John Robert (Pam) Carmichael, Port Williams; Daughter-in-law, Rosalee Gaudet; grandchildren, Kellie, Tracy (Dan), Kim, Amanda (Adam), Nick (Jill), Ryan (Caroline), Todd, Michael, Evan, Kyle, Daniel, Cory (Trish), William (Chrissy), Doug (Kerri), Jim (Bonnie), Brian (Katie), Chris (Megan), Charles, Mary (Joles), Jeff (Heather), Derrick, Becca (Luke), Sarah (Robbie), Matthew, Daniel, Justin (McKenna) and Nathan. 20 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Allan; son, Dale; a son in infancy; brothers, Wilfred, Charlie, Jackie and Freddie; sisters, Mary MacEachern and Eva Blair. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 6 in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche (657-3288). Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 7 in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Hwy. 6 in Brule. Interment will be at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Denmark. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the North Shore Health Services Foundation would be appreciated.
