Helen Bower

Bower, Helen Marie- Lockeport, passed away peacefully in Surf Lodge Nursing Home on April 4, 2017. Born in Clyde River 96 years ago, daughter of the late David M. Watkins and Margaret Gibson. Losing her mother at an early age, she was an Aid child until she moved to Jordan Bay, met and married George Inkerman Bower and together raised 7 children. She was a cook for most of her working life at the Queen’s General Hospital, Liverpool, Sable River Nursing Home and F. Swim’s Restaurant in Lockeport. She loved singing, dancing and playing cards and enjoyed the Sable River Craft Group, always with knitting needles in hand. Helen is survived by daughter, Alice Verge, Summerville Centre; sons, John (Faye), South River; Harley (Carol), Peterborough, On; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Williams (Curt), and son-in-law, Theodore Lloyd (Laverne), both of Sable River; half-sister, Venora, Ontario; half brother, Calvin, Grand Manan, N.B; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 16 great, great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband George; daughters, Ruby and Margaret; sons, George and Ernest; sisters, Myrtle and Violet; half brothers, David, Reg and Leonard Watkins. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium Ltd. No visitation by request. A graveside service will take place at a later date in Osborne Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Osborne Cemetery fund or charity of choice. The family would like to thank the great nursing staff and workers at Surf Lodge, Lockeport.
