Trenton - Laurier Joseph “Laurie” McSween, 98, passed away at the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit, Pictou, on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Born in Trenton, he was a son of the late Hugh and Jane (Jobe) McSween. He married the love of his life, Dorothy “Dot” McInnis in 1941. He served in the Canadian Army with the New Brunswick Rangers from 1942 – 46. After the war, they moved to Toronto. For the final 25 years in Toronto, he was employed by the Steel Co. of Canada until they moved back home to Trenton in 1973. Laurie was an avid bowler until age 92. He loved baseball, namely the Toronto Blue Jays. He was a member of Christ the King Church, Trenton, which he attended weekly. Surviving are his daughter, Shirley (Tony) van Ryswyk; grandson, Steven (Christine) van Ryswyk, and their children, Madison, David and Chris (Danielle), and Chris’ boys, Christophe and Eli; sister, Mary MacKenzie; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Dot in 1997; brother, John; sister-in-law, Millie McSween; brother-in-law, Doug MacKenzie; nephews, Dave McSween and Roddy MacKenzie. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Saturday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, High St., Trenton. Funeral mass 1 pm Monday in Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow, with Father Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial will be in Christ the King Cemetery.
