"Jerry", age 89, passed away on May 23rd, 2017 at the Northside General Hospital. Jerry was Born December 9, 1927 In Sydney NS, he was the son of Jeremiah and Nellie (Sugg) King.
Jerry grew up in Whitney Pier where he lived, drove taxi and raised his family. Jerry was the widower of Verna Suter, they shared 16 years together. A few years after his retirement; Jerry moved out of the Pier to live with his son and family. But Jerry's heart remained in the Pier, where he visited often by transit to see his family, friends and favorite barber shop. He continued to ride the bus to the Pier well into his later life, but as Jerry aged his commutes became shorter and he began to enjoy his daily walks around the neighbourhood, visiting the local dogs. He always had a pocket full of bone for his fur buddies. His family and friends will always remember him as a very active and independent stubborn man who showed love in his own way. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Jeremiah and Nellie; his son, Jeremiah; his sister, Vivian and brothers, Levi, George and Bill. Jerry is survived by his son, William (Belinda) King; his daughter, Marie (Daryl) Eisan; grandchildren Ashley, Robynne, Jeralyn, Ryan, Amber, and Tracy; great-grandchildren, Brody, Kaylynn, Jaxon and Sophie, brother, John and sisters, Mary, Helen, Esther, Ann, Joan and Carolyn; sister-in-law, Joan.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Monday, May 29, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with a celebration of life to follow at 7p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Sydney Animal Shelter.
