Robert Jude O'Neil

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Robert Jude O’Neil. Born in Bateston he was the son of the late Katherine McDougall and Patrick O’Neil. Dad started his career as an electrician first with his father at Patrick B. & Sons, then The Radar Base in Sydney where he spent most of his working life. He finished out his career at the Fortress of Louisbourg. In his younger years sports was a big part of his life especially baseball and hockey. Ripper was a wonderful baseball coach. He may have spent a few hours at the Bateston Athletic Club playing darts and tarabish. Later in life he enjoyed watching sports spending much time in the rinks, ball fields and basketball courts. Dad held a special place in his heart for his children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His grandkids were his pride and joy and would do anything for them. He made the best pancakes….just ask any of them.
Grateful that in his last years of his life all his children lived close so he was able to spend lots of time with them. He enjoyed spending time watching the many projects they would be working on and spending time trout fishing with his sons. This is where he spent the last few hours of his life, for that we are grateful. Survived by his loving wife of 47 years Maureen (MacIsaac); daughter, Shelley Dean (Ally); sons, Darren (Lynn), Brad and Dan (Sarah); his grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life, Jude, Bhreagh, Nadia, Raina, Connor and Callum. His sisters, Mary Longard (Mike), Rita King (Glenn), Jean Flory (George) and Barbara Holland as well as many special nieces and nephews who they all felt were his favorite. Besides his parents dad was predeceased by his sisters, Frances Wilcox, Annette and brother Colin.
Following Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Monday May 29th from 12-2 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. both at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St. Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetic Association.
