Frederick Maxwell Dowden

(Max) Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Saturday May 3, 2008 aged 79 years. Lieutenant (retired) with the St. John's Regional Fire Department from 1953-1978. Inducted into the Royal St. John's Regatta Hall of Fame in recognition of outstanding achievement and contribution to promotion, development and advancement of the Royal St. John's Regatta. Predeceased by his parents Donald and Mabel (Field); sister Laura (Lol) (husband Gordon deceased); brothers: Jack (wife Eva deceased) and Phil (wife Ella deceased). Leaving to mourn wife Desma (Des) (nee Squires); sons: Gerald (Lynda) and Glen (Louise); grandchildren: Joey (friend April), Serena (Geoff), Stephen, Jenine (friend John), Matthew and Nicole; also great grandson Cohen Anthony; will be sadly missed by special great nephew and godson Mitchell. He will be fondly remembered and missed by step-mother Violet Dowden; sisters: Hazel (Max) Baldwin, Joan (Ron) Tizzard, Gloria and Paula (Rick) Fisher; along with a large number of nieces and nephews; as well as his many relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. Visitation from 12 noon to 9 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Wednesday. Funeral service on Wednesday May 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. from St. Mark's Anglican Church, Logy Bay Road. Cremation to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Max's memory may be made to St. Mark's Anglican Church, Logy Bay Road.
