Walter Eugene Jenkins, Pictou County, died Saturday, February 7, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Trenton, NS, he was a son of the late Ephriam and Agnes Louise (Tanner) Jenkins.
Walter was a resident of MacLellan’s Brook for a number of years, later moving to Ontario where he resided and worked for some 15 years. He later moved back to reside in MacLellan’s Brook where he resided up until his death. He worked at various jobs throughout his working career, working for sometime as a coal miner and also as a butcher. After returning to Pictou County from Ontario, Walter worked for Pictou County Transit as a bus driver from where he retired. After retiring, Walter kept busy with his lawn maintenance business, which he enjoyed very much.
He was a member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, MacLennan’s Mountain.
In good health, Walter enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in his later years, he liked to play cards, especially crib. He had a quick wit and enjoyed a joke, loved to tease and have fun with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, the former Judy Stewart, MacLellan’s Brook; children: Heather (Tim) Lees, Calgary; Timothy (Marie) Jenkins, Calgary; Stacey (Craig) Stewart, Hamilton; Joshua, Calgary; and John, Toronto; grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, Emily, Michael, Amanda, Jesse, Devon, Tyler and Dylan, brothers: Stran, Fraser and Gordon, all of MacLellan’s Brook; George, Greenwood; and Fred, New Glasgow; sisters: Katherine Verschave, Waterdown, Ontario; Carol Gunn, Coalburn; and Helen Lavoie, Burlington, Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews;, and also survived by his first wife, Margaret Hood.
He was predeceased by a brother, Roy; and a sister, Alice.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday from where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Richard Sand officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Castle Hill Cemetery, MacLellan’s Brook.
Donations in memory of Walter may be made to the NS Lung Association or to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society.
