Jane Kern (Ross) Webster, 89, Pictou, passed away peacefully February 6, 2009, at the VG Hospital, Halifax, following a brief illness.
Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, she was a daughter of the late J. Gordon and Minnie (Kern) Ross.
She was educated in Moose Jaw and at Branksome Hall in Toronto, and later trained as a medical technician. Jane served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War as a nursing sister in Halifax. It was there that she met her husband, Dr. Donald R. Webster. They married in Montreal in 1945, and lived there until 1967, when they retired to their summer home in Pictou. Jane was an active participant in every community in which she lived, and will be remembered for her generosity, hospitality, and sense of humour.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Roy Willwerth); son, Donald (Jackie Vacca); her grandchildren: Nick, Jane and Anna Willwerth, all of Halifax; her sister, Barbara (Mrs. Howard Dixon), Del Mar, California; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Marnie Ross, Waterloo, Ontario; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, her brother, Dr. John Ross of Waterloo, Ont; and her sister, Mary Kerr, Winnipeg.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday from Pictou United Church, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Spring burial will be in Seaview Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made the Pictou United Church Building Fund or a charity of choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the VG, particularly Dr. Darcy Bishop and his team for their care of Jane.
