Barry Burke Baker

Barry Burke Baker, 66, of Stewiacke, passed away suddenly at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Frank and Vera (Tays) Baker. Barry was an automotive technician at Halifax Chrysler Dodge for 19 years after attending Halifax Vocational School. He was employed for a short period at National Gypsum in Milford but for 25 years he enjoyed every day of his work at LaFarge Canada in Brookfield. Barry was retired from the Stewiacke Volunteer Fire Brigade having served for 15 years. He was very involved as a hockey coach in the community. Many of his player passengers will forever remember their eventful trips to the rink, plus the fact he was never late. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Gwen (Brenton), sons Brent (Jacqueline Stewart) of Stewiacke; Mark (Kelly Crossman) of Milford Station; grandchildren Connor, Cole, Cameron, Seth and Marley; sisters Beverly of Halifax and Mary (Gordon) Patton, Chico, Calif.; nieces Frances (David) Heeter and Diane (Lyle) Foster; grandniece Katelyn. Visitation will take place Tuesday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral service 2 p.m. Wednesday, all in the Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Main St., Shubenacadie. Rev. David LeBlanc officiating. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice.
