Carman Elroy Staples, 91, Belmont, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. He was the son of the late Charles and Clara (Roode) Staples and was the last surviving member of his family. Carmon was a veteran of the Second World War, a carpenter by trade and loved music, family reunions and spending time with his friends. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and special friend Hazel Hill. He was predeceased by his former wife, Vivian Carter; sisters, Corena Carter, Leone Pearson, Rachel Marr, Grace Stedman, Jean Barnhill; brothers Guy, Paul and Grant. Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 4 at 12 noon followed by a legion tribute and memorial service at 1 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Pastor Cy Mersereau officiating. Spring interment will take place in Belmont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
