Douglas ‘Doug’ Norman Fleet, 53, of Truro, passed away Friday, March 7, 2008, at home. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Ida Mae (Boutilier) Fleet of Halifax and the late Elmer Herman Fleet. Before moving to Truro, Doug did a lot of volunteer work with the Brunswick Street United Church, Halifax, The Metro Turning Point Center and the Life Styles Program. After moving to Truro he did a lot of volunteer work with the Truro Corp of the Salvation Army, Truro. Doug loved to play bingo, bass fishing on the bay, hunting and his favourite passion was helping people in need. Besides his mother he is survived by sisters, Velda (Clyde) Boutilier, Mushaboom; Belinda (Gordon) Thorne, Dartmouth; Pearl (William) Hatter, Edmonton, Alta.; brothers, Randall, Dartmouth; Miles (Nancy), Cole Harbour; Tony (Debbie), Lower Sackville; Leslie (Bev), Lake Echo; sisters-in-law, Cathy Tibbo, Porter’s Lake; Mildred Fleet, Spryfield; very close friends, Barry and Wanda Carrigan, Truro; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his companion, Mae Connor; brothers, Gary and Vincent. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the Truro Corp of the Salvation Army, Major Rocky Bishop and Major Janice Bishop officiating. Interment to be held at a later date in the Watson Cemetery, Truro. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
