Elwyn Clifford Archibald

Elwyn Clifford Archibald, Const. Ret'd, 78, of Truro, passed away Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Clifford and Josephine (Fields) Archibald. Elwyn was a member of the Truro Police Service where he served for 28 years. In his earlier years, he worked at the Truro Feed and Farm Supply and later at Ralston Purina, Truro. He was an active member of the Truro Wesleyan Church where he was treasurer for several years, and was a member of The Gideon's. Elwyn was very active in the community and was on the board at FutureWorks. He devoted many years to the Maritime Cattle Market Association and also to the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition. He was an avid woodsman and farmer. He will always be remembered for his unique laughter and his great appetite. "Pup" loved his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Greta Lynds; sons, Wayne (Jenny) of Truro, Dale (Susan) of Calgary, Alta., Kevin (Margo) of Truro; daughters, Janice (John) Gero of Truro, Karen (James) Morrell of Truro; grandchildren Jonathon, David, Daniel, Naomi, Kelley, Kristy, Colton, Nicholas, Noah, Abigail; great-grandsons, Logan, Joshua; brothers, Dr. Gerald (Gail) Archibald of Woodbridge, Ont., Dr. Reginald (Marilyn) Archibald of Bridgewater; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, all in the Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Rev. Ken Banks will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. A private family burial will follow in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Family flowers only. Donations in Elwyn's memory may be made to The Gideon's, Wesleyan Church, Truro, or to a charity of choice.
