Adelaide M. Greenough, 83, of Five Islands, Colchester County passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Margaree Harbour, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Haverstock and Jessie (Evans) MacLean. Adelaide began teaching school at the age of 16 in Chimney Corner. Following graduation from Normal College, she taught in Five Islands, Economy and Bass River for 28 years. She was vice-principal in Bass River for many years retiring in 1980. She was a long serving member of Peniel United Church, where she was active with the choir, Sunday school and served as treasurer. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Russell; daughter, Helen Greenough (John), Bedford; son, Dr. John Greenough, Kelowna, B.C.; sister, Ruby MacKay (Arthur), Margaree Harbour; brother, John MacLean (Cheryl), Margaree Harbour; a granddaughter, Catherine Greenough, Kelowna; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Marie. A gathering of friends and family will be held 7 to 9 p.m. this evening, Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at The Greenough's at 99 Waterfront Drive, Bedford. Visitation 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at Peniel United Church, Five Islands, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating.
