Annie Caroline McElmon, 95, of Truro, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 26, 2009, at The Mira Long Term Care Facility Truro. Born in Upper Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Miller) Bentley. Annie was a former employee of Stanfield's Ltd. Truro, where she had worked for 36 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, Truro, and the UCW. She loved to knit and crochet and had a smile for everyone and also loved the little children. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her husband Roy predeceased her in 1980. She is survived by sister-in-law, Eva Bentley, Toronto, ON; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; brothers, William, Blair, Frederick; sister, Edith, Mrs. Alcom Upham. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. today, January 28, funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday, January 29, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, Rev. Edward Bentley officiating, with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment to be held at a later date in the Robie Street Cemetery, Truro. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the CNIB or to the Millennium Pipe Organ Fund of St. Andrew's United Church, Truro. The family would like to express special thanks to Nick Boyd and family for all their acts of kindness and friendship to Annie.
