Aubrey Stewart Dowe, 68, Hilden, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Thursday morning, June 26, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born July 31, 1939 in Woods Mountain, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Corbett and Bertha (Smith) Dowe. Aubrey worked in various sawmills for most of his working life. A devoted family man, he had a great love for his children and grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, he loved being in the woods hunting, fishing, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Aubrey is survived by his loving companion, Bernice (Spence) Rayner; their sons, Aubrey Jr., Moncton; Arthur (Myrna), Cranbrook, B.C.; children from a second marriage, daughters, Dorothy Brown, Truro; Diana (John) Olsen, Hilden; Jane (Paul) Boyer, Amherst; Roseann (Kenny) Fisher, Truro; son, Stewart Dowe (Zoe Legge), Debert; step-daughters, Laura Rayner (Davis Phillips), Summerside, P.E.I.; Jane (Kevin) Davis, Summerside, P.E.I. Aubrey is also survived by sisters, Leola (Eric) Wright, Lake Echo; Barbara (Arnold) Warren, Bible Hill; brother, Allison (Bonnie) Dowe, Parrsboro; 16 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by grandson, Corbett in infancy; sisters, Laura Lake, Hazel McCully; brothers, Lorne, in infancy, and Murray. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where Aubrey’s family will receive friends from 2 to 4, 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2008 and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, Reverend Dan Gunn officiating.
