Byron Gerard Johnston, 78, Truro passed away peacefully on June 10, 2007 at the Williams Country Homes after a lengthy illness. Born on November 30, 1929 in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Edison and Nettie Johnston. He was a devoted father and grandfather. Byron will be remembered as a kind, generous and gentle man, who always had time for a chat and was always willing to lend a hand. He graduated from Mount Allison University, completed a stint with the Canadian Armed Forces, he received a dentistry degree from Dalhousie University and a degree in orthodontics from the University of Montreal. Byron loved sports, he was a baseball coach for many years, an avid curler and golfer. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Byron is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Connie; children: Stephen (Beth) Truro; Linda Moncton; Donald (Sheila) Truro; Bruce (Amy) Boston; grandchildren: Scott, Daniel, Emma, Sam, Lauren, Christopher, Leah and Katherine; brothers: Eldon, Jack, Murray, David, Kenny. Predeceased by his sister Audrey, brothers Reid and Ronnie. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Williams for their tremendous support over many years. There will be no visitation by request. Condolences may be sent to our website at www.colchestercommunity.com A private family graveside service will be held in his beloved Cape Breton at the Brookside Cemetery in Sydney Mines.
